A friend of mine asked me yesterday why one could not plug in a 386SX in a 286 socket. The answer is of course, that they are not pin compatible. I can not however, see any reason why a 286 pin compatible 386SX can not be built. This could then directly be plugged in into 286 boards (together with a suitable BIOS replacement if needed) and upgrade them to run 32 bit software. Any reason why this has not been done?
